Dhamaka : Delhi has been put on high alert after police received inputs from the Intelligence Bureau

3 12 2007

The Intelligence Bureau has warned that the national Capital may witness terror attacks within the next two weeks. And in a bid to catch the security apparatus off-guard, the attacks may be carried out after the festival season.

The Indian Intelligence Bureau (IB) has informed Delhi Police Commissioner Y. S. Dadwal that markets and crowded areas may be targeted by LeT and HUJI, a city police official told reporters here Monday.

The intelligence inputs suggest that militants of the Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in connivance with Bangladeshi terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) were hatching a conspiracy to target Delhi, the official said on condition of anonymity.

The Delhi Police says it is gearing up to deal with the threat. Bomb Disposal Squads and quick reaction teams have been put on the alert. Extra battalions of local police and dog squads will be deployed at important places.

Meanwhile, vigil has also been increased on Delhi’s entry points, with Delhi Police officials maintaining a close coordination with their counterparts of neighbouring states.

To pre-empt any possible attack, a close watch is being kept at cyber cafes and their owners have been asked to maintain a list of their customers along with server logs.

Dealers providing mobile phone connections have also been asked to maintain a list of their customers.

As Internet and cell phones are being used by the insurgents to communicate, Delhi police have asked cyber cafe owners to maintain not only customer details but server logs, too. Dealers providing mobile connections were also asked to maintain a list of their customers.
